Sunderland Public Transport User Group Meeting at the Fans Museum! 30/01/2025
1 – Introduction
The Chair Alec McFadden welcomed all present to the meeting and thanked Michael for the hospitality,
including the wood fire.
Alec also thanked all members for their contributions to the NE Transport Consultation Submission, in particular regard to Chris Lawlor and Phil Young. The SPTUG submission is 37 pages long, being the largest and most comprehensive submitted and like the NPC submission, will be on the Northern NPC website.

3 – Approval of Minutes from Last Meeting
The minutes from our meeting were approved without any amendments.
4 – Matters Arising
4.1 Taxi Licensing Plates
Although Cllr Linzi Lenard was unable to attend, a great deal of progress has been made
on the issue of licensing plates for taxis in Sunderland and a central policy for Tyne and
Wear is now being considered. The taxi drivers present were pleased that progress has
been made.
5 – NE Mayor’s Transport Consultation
Chris reported that over 16,000 contributions had been made to the NE Mayor Transport Consultation. The
main features in the Sunderland PTUG submission are:
o Vital to highlight Sunderland’s transport needs and investment improvements
o Fairer Metro timetables for Sunderland
o Improving rail connections particularly to and from London this is an economic necessity
o A Greener Transport Network
o Enhanced accessibility
o Taxi Integration
o 24-hour travel concessions for retired workers
o Washington Loop Investment
o Continual Community Involvement
Every committee member present spoke positively about our submission and thanked Chris for his efforts.
6 – Next Meeting
All present stressed the need to maintain bimonthly meetings on a Thursday in the early evening. The date
of the next meeting will be Thursday 27 March 2025 at 4.45pm.
