In Memory of Carlton Fairweather

We take a moment today to honour the memory of Carlton Fairweather on the anniversary of his passing ❤️

Carlton was not only a talented footballer, known for his time at Wimbledon as part of the famous “Crazy Gang”, but also a dedicated coach who made a lasting impact at Sunderland AFC, including his role as Head Coach of SAFC Women.

To honour his legacy, Sunderland staff joined Carlton’s family at the Fans Museum, where Chris Rigg unveiled “Carlton’s Corner” – a special tribute featuring artwork by renowned North East artist Bob Olley. It stands as a celebration of Carlton’s life and the incredible influence he had on so many people.

Michael Ganley, Founder of The Fans Museum, said:

“I have long admired Bob Olley’s work, particularly the way it captures and celebrates the region’s rich industrial heritage. To me, that heritage underpins the very foundations of our beautiful game. Being involved in creating a lasting tribute to Carlton, while incorporating the legacy of such an exceptional artist, is something I am immensely proud of.”

Following Carlton’s passing from pancreatic cancer in 2025, we are proud to support St Benedict’s Hospice in recognition of the outstanding care and compassion shown to Carlton and his family.

John Hewitson, alongside many other coaches and club staff and friends, will be taking on the Great North Run this September to raise funds for this incredible cause.
